The Raised Ranch Revolution…

“Chris, think of the first things that come into your mind.”
“Well okay Doc, here goes. Headaches, sweat, insomnia, snot (the nose stuff - not my old car), blah, blah, yuck, yuck, yuck.”
“Sounds like you’ve been ill Chris!”
“Well done Einstein, now heal me dammit!”

Its getting to the point now where sitting down in front of a Windows box requires a step-change in my thought process. I’m at work, burning DVD’s in one drive and the latest rawhide cd in the other (at the same time) whilst listening to music streaming from my mythtv box at home, umpteen different tabs open in firefox, thunderbird checking for mail, xchat idling away in the background, ssh’d into aforementioned mythtv box with torrent running remotely and it all just works. Amen to that.

I don’t want to be krippled, kracked…

Posted by Christopher under: White Noise.

No I am not on Facebook.
No I will never have a myspace page.

I do have a single line profile on Friends Re-united which I think is succinct and to the point.

This blog is under my complete control, hosted on my own server with access to all the code from the web server and database, through the pre-processor, all the way up to the words I write. I don’t like talking to people I went to school with because, with the exception of those I’m still in contact with, I never did in the first place. I certainly don’t want my content being overseen by someone with questionable ethical guidelines.

I can’t shake this feeling I’ve got…

Ride-to-work music today was the latest Editors album. It’s a pretty rare day with barely a cloud in the sky and warmed up nicely - my drinks bottle was empty by the time I rode in through the doors at work.

I have booked my flight to Sydney for Rob’s wedding. I have known Rob since age eight or something and am best man for his wedding. We have travelled across the outback together and are still somehow on talking terms. He once rode from one end of New Zealand to the other to raise money for charity which gives a measure of the man. Although I have to wear a pink shirt for the wedding which I’m a bit worried about. How does the best man score wearing pink?

This week I’ve been lazy and only ridden into work once - today. The rest of the time I’ve dossed about which I hate but is always the easy option. Although I did get high yesterday sniffing damp sealer in the downstairs loo.

Films

Anyway, I’ve been watching films. Specifically:
The Bourne Ultimatum Latest Bourne films doesn’t disappoint. Matt Damon karate-chops people and the camera can’t keep up. Features London Waterloo with no McDonald’s trash floating about the place plus plenty of scenes of people performing computer cracks in less than ten seconds flat a la 24. 9/10 though.
Soylent Green Sci-fi film set in future. Planet has food shortage where everyone eats stuff called Soylent blue, yellow, green etc. Charlton Heston is annoying. 4/10.
Logan’s Run. Essential viewing for any nascent 30-year-old. People live in bliss until 30 when they get a chance to be re-born. Some get scared and get chased down by Runners and terminated, much like the replicants in Bladerunner. 8/10
Demon Seed. This came out in the year of my birth and is basically about a supercomputer that wants to become human but cant and solves the problem in an interesting way. 6/10

It’s not as if you didn’t try…

My bike’s rear mech is cream-crackered after only two weeks. A grub screw is missing and the cage is bent like a nine-bob note. I don’t even know how I did it. Metal Michael has another epic adventure in the planning so hopefully I’ll be able to sort it before then. I’ve recently discovered cyclists aren’t big fans of fat people or BMW drivers. The latter is easy as all beamer drivers move like they own the road but the former I am still figuring out. I don’t think my bike will ever get a name at this rate but it does have a Tigger bike bell.

I’m setting up an online shop at the moment and so am re-aquainting myself with the joys of CSS, PHP and annoying IE bugs. People, you may never appreciate just what the Mozilla foundation and Firefox has done for the Internet but believe me it is huge. Anyway, you may be interested to know my GIMP skills are getting updated as well…

Broken toy soldiers…

Posted by Christopher under: Travel & Leisure; White Noise.

Last Friday I went on a bike ride round Manchester. Some other people turned up at the same time too, amazingly. It was the last time I would ride Firestorm, my bike of ten years as someone mistook my bike for their own later on at Manchester Piccadilly station. Which is strange as it had a distinctive ‘Dennis-the-Menace’ bell on it and my helmet hanging off it. Wierd huh?

So I’m in the market for a replacement bike and name to go with it. Anyway, here’s a picture of a few people all riding in the same direction completely by chance for an hour or so. :)

I feel good and I knew that I would…

For those outside the U.K. a ban is about to take effect on smoking in public places. Currently, the majority of the population who don’t smoke have to sit in their favourite coffee joints and drinking houses, inhaling carcinogenic crap from the general atmosphere. On the 1st of July they are evicted from such places and I will make a point of standing at the window and laughing at them as they cower in the wind and rain trying pathetically to light a rolled up bit of paper with dead plant stuffed inside it, their body and mind enslaved to its drug which is slowly killing them. Mwahahaha!!!

My clothes won’t smell any more either.

Inertia creeps, moving up slowly…

An office in West Yorkshire. The telephone rings. I answer.

“Good afternoon, $my_employer.”
“Hello, its $client at Aberdeen here. I’ve got a problem. Its raining.”
“Not a lot I can do about that I’m afraid.”
“No but we’re flooded.”
“Again, not a…”
“You built this though.”
“True but I didn’t create the organic matter that is blocking the main drain at the moment, did I?”
“No.”
“Call Dyno-rod.”

It’s the U.K. where the customer is king!
