Sometimes people conspire to make you feel like you live in a nation of Very Bad People.
Incident One - A few days ago the house was broken into. I was away visiting older brother and so the house must have looked deserted. Said intruder got a surprise when younger brother greeted him when he walked into his room at around 11pm. He left taking with him one of my old mobile phones and leaving us with a hefty bill to replace the windows frame he had used as his entrance.
Incident Two - I was involved in a minor collision (my fault entirely) a week or so ago. I have received a letter claiming personal injury and GBP £1k plus in damages. Err, no.
Incident Three - Two snotty emails at work, one sent late Friday, just in time for the weekend. Thanks!
Not great. Still, here’s the bright side.
Wordpress 2.5 (on which this blog is written) is awesome. Upgrade was a cinch too.
Metal Michael continues his awesome adventures and I continue my persual of travel sites.
Tomorrow is another day.

Top prize goes to Mr Clifton Firth (on right, obviously) who thought I was leaving mid-day!

Just to let you all know that within a month or so I will have my day skipper’s ticket. During a recent visit to Cornwall I was offered the chance to sail one of our client’s boats, (the Olof Lipar!), to Sydney as it will be talking part in the Sydney-Hobart yacht race at the year end and of course I’d be a fool to miss the chance. The job hasn’t been working out quite as expected (long hours, not much pay) so of course I jumped at the chance. I’ll be leaving probably around mid-may for three months. Anyone planning on being in Oz around August?

A year ago this happened. A few days ago my driving license slid through the door and on to the mat. In a few days I’ll be back on the road. I’ve made some pretty major changes in my life since then, most notably cutting down drastically the amount of alcohol I drink. I’ve also taken up mountain-biking again and have realised that I’m now medication-dependent and probably will be for the rest of my life.

Hectic week and dog-tired but here it is in bullet-points:
- New job rocks but don’t like publicly blogging about work so that is that
- Sold guitar and amp (ostensibly to upgrade to acoustic but actually for the readies)
- Log4net has been accepted into Fedora (it only took 5 months!)
- The road to my driving license winging its way back to me is truly in its final stretch as the DVLA are talking to the doctors
- Virgin media have only just realised after three months that I am on the wrong tariff
- The girl is moving house tomorrow so I am supplying rippling muscles of steel to smooth the process
- My new job rocks

As the Republicans always manage to appear a bunch of war-mongering rednecks bent on either the destruction of a large part of Earth or total world domination, I ignore them completely now and watched Clinton and Obama’s speeches following Super Tuesday. For the blogosphere, here are my views:
Clinton is a better speaker than Obama and looks more presidential but reads from cards. Obama is off the cuff, or appears to be.
Clinton does a lot of this “shut-the-hell-up” hand movement to her supporters which I find a bit annoying/patronising but it could be a North American subtlety I’m missing. Obama also does it but appears better.
The speeches covered similar topics. Both make references to the recent tornadoes but Obama does a better job of it - Clinton only seems to cover it for the sake of it. Obama making plenty of references to the fact the he has not been funded by lobbyists - this is what wins it for me.
Outcome: I’d love to see Obama win but won’t be too unhappy with Clinton. If McCain wins I’ll shoot myself.

Does anyone actually offer it any more? It seems to have been reduced to the bargain bin. Why for example to Virgin Media offer Medium, Large and Extra Large? I think the same trend occurs in shops and restaurants, particularly fast food joints. Starbucks gets round it by offering Tall (that’s the small one) Grande (Medium) and Venti (TM) - yep, they’ve trademarked a size.

So I just handed in my notice. Two years of working as a geek in a distinctly non-geeky field is fine. I’m happy with the choice and now I’ve got a couple of weeks to think about what to do next. Its time to throw the dice and see what lands…
