It took half an hour of wandering about the wrong place but I eventually found Sylvia Plath’s grave at Heptonstall church. She wasn’t where I thought she would be but I eventually stumbled on the new plot and after a bit of wandering about found the gravestone and snapped the image which now sits on her Wikipedia page. I have since done some editing to the article and with a multitude of others hope to improve its general overall quality.
The above episode made me realise how awful the camera on the mobile is so I have since ordered a new Nokia E70 which is arriving at some point today. The big feature? Wifi connectivity means I can make calls over VOIP when it is in range of a wireless access point. So essentially mobile calls at a fraction of the cost. Its called digital convergence I think.

Ah yes, I am now a member of the British Computing Society. Members in my area were recently treated to talks on such topics as “The Mainframe in 2006″ and “Medicine, Computing and You”. I’m cursing my luck I missed those bad boys however luck is at hand - this month’s talk is “The Evolution of Malicious Code”. Which should probably be subtitled “Unpatched Windows boxes are agar jelly for computing viruses”. Or “Hey, look what happens when practically the entire planet runs one type of operating system!”. The internet has a cold and spam is the mucus. Maybe I should be a guest speaker…?

So its the Year of the Pig for all things Chinese. The celebrations in Manchester yesterday were quite underwhelming although that might be because I didn’t stay for the fireworks. Still if I had wanted to flick the jaunty travelling type a coin or two I could have had a ride on the Haunted House. Not very oriental. Neither was the Greater Manchester Fire Department stand or the Hot Dog van. Never mind. The food, what there was of it, was okay.
I spent a bit of a dreamy afternoon in a Manchester coffee shop reading about Pete Goss sailing a bit too close to the wind but getting the Legion d’honneur for it.
We have run out of wood for the fire.

Huzzah! Ecotricity (my wonderful green energy suppliers) have put up a video showing the construction of one of their wind turbines. I’m not directly inling to youtube any longer as it messes up my HTML validation of which I am so proud however here it is:

If you would like to make a difference to the planet, feel better about yourself and brag to your friends, you can upgrade to wind-powered juice here. It doesn’t even cost any extra! I’m not even being paid to blog this! Huzzah!

So I’m back from snowboarding in Livigno with some folks from work and others. The pic is my snowboarding instructor Roby - he spends five months teaching skiing and boarding and then when the snow melts he gets on his Honda Fireblade, motors down a valley or two and organises golf tournaments. He speaks four different languages and is essentially a total legend.
So the body has taken a bit of a battering and so have a few other things after the weekend following it. I think women are born insane and slowly drive men the same over time.
In geeky news, I’m now running Fedora 7 Test One (not much to report), have upgraded Wordpress to 2.1 and its now ajaxically saving my posts every couple of minutes as I type (nice) and my Sipura IP to POTS adapter has arrived so I will have a shot at setting up the VOIP asterisk box on my Mythtv computer tonight. That’s after I get some more painkillers for my cracked rib. I want to go sailing again….
